Arthur Wydler, President, term ends 2013

I was born in San Lorenzo in 1951. I lived here and attended school (St John’s) here until 1962, when my family moved to Oakland. I attended schools in Oakland and then graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Criminology. After graduation, I joined the United States Marine Corps and served 6 years. I resigned my commission in 1978 after attaining the rank of captain. I was fortunate to spend a tour of duty in southeast Asia and Japan where I developed an interest in Asian art and architecture. After leaving the Marine Corps, I lived in southern California and worked for the San Diego Police Department and the US Treasury Department.

In 1982, I returned to San Lorenzo and bought my current house. I have lived in San Lorenzo since. During that time I worked for the Hayward Police Department and retired from police work having attained the rank of sergeant. I was an active member of the Hayward Police Officer’s Association (HPOA) and was a member of the board of directors of the HPOA, holding the positions of both Treasurer and President. Currently, I feel San Lorenzo has 2 major inter-related needs: (1) more community involvement in addressing the needs of the community and (2) continued community involvement in the proposals and development of the redevelopment plans that are currently under consideration for the community. Community involvement in the development of our community is essential.

I can frequently be seen having coffee in the morning at Frodo’s and lunch at Papa Pancho’s or Classic Burger. I shop at Lucky’s and bank in our neighborhood banks. I welcome you to contact me whenever you see me to discuss concerns you may have about the community.

As a long time resident of San Lorenzo and a retiree (although I have a part time/seasonal job) I have both the desire to see our community remain safe, prosperous and a desirous place to live and I have the time to help see that come true.

Committees: Representative to the H.A.R.D. Advisory and The Sheriff Advisory Committees.

Margaret Wright, Secretary/Treasurer, elected 2007 (term ends 2013)

I have lived in Alameda County all my life and have lived in the San Lorenzo Community for the past 18 years. I have been employed with the Alameda County since 1980. My husband and I, of nearly 25 years, both work as public servants, and are dedicated to protecting the public’s health, safety and environment. We have two children, whom we raised in San Lorenzo.

My family and I are members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and I am active in the Confirmation/Youth Group, Eucharistic Ministry and have helped with Congregations Organizing for Renewal (COR).

It’s time to take back our neighborhoods and I want to be involved in helping to improve our neighborhoods.

Working with the other members of the Board, I will strive to further improve our neighborhoods. With your help we can better preserve the unique character of San Lorenzo. I encourage you to get involved. The more people care about where they live, the higher the quality of life we will have.

Wulf Bieschke, elected 2011

In 2006, I successfully ran for the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association Board of Directors and became a very pro-active member of the Board; and was elected Board President the next year.

As a representative for the Association on the Urban Unincorporated Areas Economic Development Strategic Committee, the Eden Area Redevelopment Citizens Advisory Committee, the Eden Area Livability Initiative Committee, and the Ordinance Review Committee, I advocated for and worked hard to address the real priorities of the San Lorenzo Village. I believe I have demonstrated my ability to add value to our Association and want to continue the work I was doing.

In 2009, I ran unopposed for a second term. However within a few months I was diagnosed with a serious health issue that altered the priorities in my life and caused me to resign my position on the Board midterm. After a successful procedure and the care of my good doctor, I believe that I once again can become a strong voice for the San Lorenzo Village.

San Lorenzo Village has been my home since 1965. In 1991, my wife Susan and I had the privilege of purchasing our home in which we raised our two children. I am currently president of a successful business in the area and my wife and I are active members of St John the Baptist Catholic parish.

Diane Wydler, elected 2011 (term ends 2014)

My parents moved to San Lorenzo when I was 2 years old. I attended Lorenzo Manor Elementary School, Bohannon Junior High, and Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland. I obtained my high school teaching certificate from UC Berkeley. After teaching for a year in Vallejo, I returned to the San Lorenzo area and taught at Moreau High School in Hayward for about 10 years, while living in either San Lorenzo or Hayward.

In 1980 I moved to San Jose, became a computer programmer, and eventually a manager in Business Applications development.

During my 30-year stay in San Jose, I maintained my ties with the San Lorenzo area by frequently visiting my brother and my parents, who continued to live in San Lorenzo. During this time, most of my social life revolved around San Lorenzo and Hayward; and San Lorenzo has always been home. My parents were active in San Lorenzo activities, and my dad and I participated in the 'Adopt-a-Highway' clean-up program. Several years ago we received an award from Alameda County for our volunteer efforts in cleaning up I-880 (Highway 17) between Paseo Grande and the Hacienda overpass. In 2005, I was inducted into the Moreau HS Hall of Fame as a coach for my work in the initial building of the girls’ athletic program.

When my parents passed away, I moved back into my childhood home. Although I have only been living back here for a year, I have never felt disconnected from San Lorenzo. When I moved back, I began attending the Home Owner's Association meetings and volunteering to help at various functions, like Earth Day, the 100th Year Library Celebration, and the Meet-and-Greets. I have become more interested in the Redevelopment Project, especially the area involving the old Mervyns' property, where, as a child, I used to watch Santa Claus land in his helicopter for Christmas. I decided to apply for the board opening because I care about San Lorenzo and I believe that if one cares about something, one should do what they can to help. I was surprised by the amount of time and effort the current board members dedicate to San Lorenzo. I am amazed at the number of meetings they attend to present San Lorenzo's interests to the county, to HARD, to the Hayward Airport, and numerous other agencies whose actions affect the residents of San Lorenzo. Although easier for me, I am sad and disappointed that no one else applied for the open position on the Board, because to keep San Lorenzo a desirable, safe, and beautiful community in which to live, the input and efforts of many are needed. I hope we can find a way to involve many more residents in the future of San Lorenzo.
